Football Association of Thailand president Somyot Poompanmoung stated that Thailand played better and Vietnam was too lucky to get 1 points at home.
The much-awaited Vietnam vs Thailand match was extremely exciting. There were many chances created, although both sides played counter-attack. Theerathon Bunmathan missed a penalty goal, while Bui Tien Dung’s header goal was not recognized.
To be fair, Thailand was slightly better than Vietnam last night, when they showed their willpower and professional level under the pressure of 40,000 spectators. They had more attacking situations and more shots on target. Therefore, a draw is a regrettable result for Thai fans.
Somyot Poompanmoung told Siamsports: "Throughout 90 minutes, Thailand was clearly the better team. But Vietnam was too lucky. Thai players need to focus on the next important matches."

Head coach Akira Nishino, speaking in the post-match press briefing, expressed his satisfaction about his players, saying they followed his tactics and 1 point was a reasonable outcome. Meanwhile, Park Hang-seo stressed that he didn’t like the draw outcome, adding that Thailand will no longer easily beat Vietnam.
Vietnam is still placed 1st in Group G with 11 points after 5 matches, while Thailand slips down to 3rd, following Malaysia who defeated Indonesia 2-0.
